Sumac

Red-brown to dark purple in color, sumac berries grow from a wild decorative bush (these originate from the Mediterranean - different than the common variety). Sumac has a tart, slightly fruity flavor (with a hint of lemon) that pairs well with fish, hummus, breads, and ground meats. Mix sumac with yogurt and herbs to make a tangy, fresh sauce or use for grilling.
